In Memory of Edna Phillips Dade
April 18, 1915-September 15, 2008
At age 23, Edna was the First Federated young person sent out as a missionary. She was a member of FFC for 82 years. She served in Venezuela under The Evangelical Alliance Mission (TEAM) from 1938 to 1985. She married Ellsworth Dade in 1940. They served in various ministry areas including church planting, Christian education, print shop, literature distribution and managing a bookstore. For many years, Edna used her accounting skills as field treasurer. Four children joined the Dade family, Marta, Juanita, Dan and Dorcas.
Edna was preceded in death by her husband, Ellsworth and daughter, Dorcas. She is survived by her children, Marta (Peter) Hocking of Lima, Peru, Juanita (Jon) Beran of Chicago, Illinois, and Daniel Dade of Phoenix, Arizona, numerous grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Two of Edna’s daughters also supported by FFC served in overseas missions. Dorcas was with TEAM in Maracaibo, Venezuela, until her home-going in 2002. Marta continues with Segadores (Reapers) in Lima, Peru.
The late R.M. Phillips and Mrs. Phillips made a great contribution to the missionary program, with three of their children serving on foreign fields. Edna Dade (Ellsworth) with TEAM in Venezuela, Lola Sunwall (Nils) with TEAM in Taiwan and Arthur (Velva) with Child Evangelism Fellowship in Mexico. Helen Philips,
Des Moines, continues with sewing projects and provides prayer and support to her siblings. Walter (Laretha), provide an upstairs apartment for missionaries home on furlough in Des Moines. Wilma Rafferty (Carl) lived in Nebraska where Carl worked for a Christian radio station. Wilma now resides in Dubuque with her daughter. Robert (Helen) was involved in local church work in Ames, Iowa, and was on staff with WOI TV. Helen Phillips shares, “All love the Lord and have served Him in their own way and place.”
Other Phillipses currently supported by FFC: Beth Hanna, serving with CAM International in Queretaro, Mexico, and Elaine Weller at the Child Evangelism Fellowship headquarters in Warrenton, Missouri. Their parents, Arthur and Velva, began the work of Child Evangelism Fellowship in Mexico in 1943.
Many are now loving and serving the Lord because God used these dear families to touch their hearts and lives.
