Showing Christ’s Love

God gave us the opportunity to use our money, time, and talents to serve the homeless, poor, and broken at Central Iowa Shelter & Services. We met the physical needs of 120+ hungry men and women by purchasing food, preparing a delicious spaghetti dinner, and serving it to them, and we also met their spiritual needs by sharing with them the love of Jesus through warm smiles and uplifting conversation. One of the workers at the shelter told me that he was overwhelmed with gratitude that we not only came in and served food, but that we also sat down with these men and women and listened to their stories and shared words of encouragement with them.
As we quickly approach 2010, we have our sights set on continuing to seize the opportunities around us and love God and the people of this world with passion. Next on our agenda is forming relationships with and showing Christ’s love to the international students who will be attending Drake University for the 2010 spring semester. I encourage and challenge all of you to “make the most of every opportunity” as well and love God and the people around you in bold and radical ways.
