The River at FFC
The Des Moines River is a focal point in the life of our city. As a tributary of the Mississippi, it snakes its way 525 miles from its forked sources in southern Minnesota to its termination at Keokuk. Along the way, it draws resources from the Boone and Raccoon Rivers but shares its bounty in the reservoirs found at Saylorville Lake and Lake Red Rock near Pella.
In a like manner, the image of the river is prominently displayed on the pages of Scripture. Spanning the Paradise of Eden in Genesis to the Paradise of the New Jerusalem in Revelation, the natural description gives way to the spiritual application. Rivers are places of refreshment, sustenance, peace and abundance. Rivers are places to gather and worship. Fresh water rivers are a picture of the regenerating Christ (John 7:37-38). Oh, to drink deeply of Him!
While fully supporting and celebrating the other service expressions of our church, “The River at FFC” is designed to cut a distinct channel for those looking for a “fresh-water worship experience”. Please understand, this is more than just a change in music styles. Our objective is participatory interaction that provides opportunities to connect with God and others in life-transforming ways. (Yes, we’re into life-on-life small groups.)
Our prayer is that each of us will move past the constraints of modern highway “churchianity” to the course-changing power of river life—a life that cannot be contained!
