Missions
John Porter | Missions Director
Pray | Give | Go
In obedience to Christ’s mandate in Mark 16:15–16 and the vision of FFC, the Missions ministry purposes to win people to Christ through global evangelization by encouraging and coordinating participation in local and international missions ministries. The Missions Council, which is comprised of lay volunteers and leaders, promotes and coordinates opportunities to serve.
Fall International Mission Fest: October 7–14
October 7: Robert Brock, Voice of the Martyrs
October 14: George Verwer, Operation Mobilization
Our own missionaries from around the world will be here to tell of their ministries and how God is using them. They will be sharing in classes Sunday morning, in Christian schools, and in homes during the week. We will be enjoying a breakfast the first Sunday, and a luncheon the next Sunday. This fall’s focus is on the Persecution of Christians and the Underground Church for children and youth.
Short Term Opportunities
Have you ever thought about taking your vacation to see how God can use your gifts and talents? If you have an interest, questions, or ideas please contact John Porter. We have opportunities right here in Des Moines, around the U.S. or globally to work alongside some of our missionaries. These include work projects, prayer walks, mentoring, tutoring, evangelistic teams and medical clinics. What are you waiting for? Let’s take it to the streets!
Missionary Roster
First Federated Church currently supplies financial support to over 50 different missionary families. Of those, approximately 60% are serving on foreign fields and the rest are state-side in a variety of administrative, evangelistic and equipping ministries. In addition to these missionary families, we also work with a number of local missions organizations, such as Child Evangelism Fellowship, Prison Fellowship, Door of Faith Mission, and Good Samaritan Urban Ministries.
Missions Finances
Our Missions program is financed by Faith Promise Giving. Every year an ingathering of Faith Promise Pledges is conducted at our World Missions Conferences. Our current budget for World Missions is approximately $324,000.
